Today I have created a video to present on the topic of sleep, bullet point #6 from the Healthy Life Foundation Chart under the header Physical. The first 16 bullet points have an emphasis on the self.
Today I made a video emphasizing the importance of getting 8 hours of sleep. I have been struggling with this topic because I want to be in bed and asleep by 10 PM so I can wake up at 6 AM. However, I am not successfully falling asleep at 10 PM, and when I wake up late in the morning, I would be upset with myself because I feel like I slept in and wasted time. This morning I decided to give myself grace as I figured out what factors prevent me from falling asleep quickly.
When I decided to give myself grace this morning, it changed the tone for how I started the day. It was a good move. I was very productive and felt very happy.
To help myself fall asleep at my goal time, I have decided to try the following changes tonight.
I will not eat 3 hours before bed.
I will try to go to the gym (~8 PM) for a yoga session, sauna, and shower to prepare for bed.
Once I get back to my bed, I will immediately go to sleep.
The takeaway from this blog is that my most important goal is to get 8 hours of sleep and to work on factors to figure out what prevents me from falling asleep quickly as I hit the hay.
